Alliant Becomes First Credit Union to Partner Nationally With Operation HOPE For Financial Literacy Empowerment

Silver Rights agenda forges ahead with company urging employees to become HOPE Corps Volunteers Teaching Banking on Our Future curriculum in the Windy City

LOS ANGELES, CA – January 16, 2008 – Increasing its commitment to the “silver rights” movement currently being advanced by Operation HOPE (HOPE), Alliant Credit Union has become the first credit union to partner nationally with HOPE. Alliant, for years a HOPE partner in the Chicago area, has also agreed to continue an annual grant commitment of $25,000 to support HOPE’s award-winning youth financial literacy program, Banking on Our Future.

Alliant has long been an advocate for its members and this undertaking is in line with their initiatives to promote personal and financial well being. As a result of the national partnership, Alliant employees throughout the company’s national branch system will join their Chicago colleagues as HOPE Corps volunteers, teaching financial literacy to youth.

"The expanded partnership between HOPE and Alliant will add to the educational outreach programs our company is involved in,” said David Mooney, Alliant CEO and founding chairman of the HOPE Midwest board. "We feel that understanding the language of money is key to making smart life decisions, which is one the reasons why we support programs that help people young and old maximize the resources they have available to them."

Bill Robinson, program director for Banking on Our Future Chicago, is excited about the expanded relationship with Alliant. “As the only year-round program delivering economic literacy at no cost to school systems, we are pleased to have such an outstanding organization assisting Operation HOPE’s mission to promote dignity and volunteerism.” Mary Hagerty, HOPE’s senior vice president, global chief of financial literacy, adds ”The financial freedom of Chicago’s low-wealth students will be greatly enhanced through this partnership with Alliant, bringing the world one step closer to eradicating poverty as we know it.”

Established in 1996 to teach children the basics of managing their financial futures and surviving in a global economy, Banking on Our Future is a recipient of the Oprah’s Winfrey’s Angel Network Award and the U.S. Treasury Department’s John Sherman Award for Financial Literacy Excellence. To date, more than 271,000 students throughout the U.S. and South Africa have received this valuable training.
