Operation HOPE Founder and Chairman John Hope Bryant Addresses Governor's Institute for Personal Finance and Entrepreneurship
Financial Literacy to play an important role in Pennsylvania
(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) Wednesday, August 2, 2006 – John Hope Bryant, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Operation HOPE will make a presentation on the need for financial literacy in hopes of motivating Pennsylvania school teachers to actively ensure that their students receive valuable information regarding their financial future. The Institute is looking to assist teachers in building a “toolkit” of information and resources and to improve financial literacy of all students in their school district.
John Bryant adds, “We believe in our youth and their future, and we have to give them more than love and best wishes. We must provide them with the knowledge they need to prepare for the economic realities of life and personal finance. Banking on Our Future is about building hope, character and belief in oneself from the perspective of something we all understand and relate to: money!”
The yearly conference is produced by The Office of Financial Education which was established in April 2004 by executive order of Governor Edward G. Rendell. The Pennsylvania Office of Financial Education seeks to increase the availability and quality of financial literacy in Pennsylvania’s schools, communities, and workplaces. The mission is to help Pennsylvania’s teachers incorporate age-appropriate personal finance principles into the reading, math, and other subjects they’re already teaching; show Pennsylvania’s employers how to provide personal finance tips, tools, and training to their employees in ways that complement their business objectives and boost their bottom lines; and connect existing community-based efforts and help more community-based organizations offer high-quality financial education and counseling throughout the commonwealth.
Part of Operation HOPE’s Silver Rights Movement to eradicate poverty by empowering the wealthless, was founded in 1996 and is HOPE’s premier financial education program for youth in underserved communities and a winner of the Oprah’s Angel Network Award and the U.S. Treasury Department’s John Sherman Award for Financial Literacy Excellence.
