Operation HOPE Receives $950,000 Grant from SunTrust Foundation to Create Online Access to Youth and Adult Programs
Funds will enable Operation HOPE to scale and expand its global impact with digital access to its financial literacy and economic empowerment programs
ATLANTA – Oct. 5, 2016 – The SunTrust Foundation is making a $950,000 grant to Operation HOPE to enable online access of its core financial literacy education and entrepreneurship programs. Digital development will allow virtual access to program curricula beginning mid-2017 and includes the translation of program content into multiple languages, including Spanish, to serve non-English-speaking participants.
“Operation HOPE has implemented sustainable, proven programs that can be repackaged in the digital arena to reach new underserved geographies and markets,” said Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Hope Bryant. “We are honored to receive this generous grant from the SunTrust Foundation to extend our global impact to deliver financial dignity and opportunity to disenfranchised young people and adults around the world.”
The launch of digital programming will accelerate Project 5117—Operation HOPE’s multi-year, four-pronged approach to combating economic inequality by improving financial literacy, increasing business role models and business internships for youth and stabilizing the American dream by boosting credit scores. Project 5117 has a goal of delivering financial literacy education to 1 million adults and 5 million youth in underserved communities by 2020.
“The SunTrust Foundation is pleased to support initiatives that bring financial well-being to more people,” said David Fuller, president of the SunTrust Foundation. “Partnering with Operation HOPE to both digitize and translate their financial literacy programs will ensure more consumers have access to the education they need to reach financial confidence.”
Operation HOPE anticipates to at least double its current impact through the use of technology by reaching individuals in locations where there are no physical HOPE Inside offices or partnerships for youth programs. Digital implementation over the next few months will be supported by robust promotion and program distribution to students, volunteers, teachers and other stakeholders via social media and other targeted marketing channels.
