Operation HOPE’s Alabama Board Holds Inaugural Meeting February 17, 2015

First board meeting lays ground work for financial advancement in the Heart of Dixie

 BIRMINGHAM, AL – February 27, 2015 – Operation HOPE’s Alabama Board of Directors held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, February 17th, with all six members in attendance. Rick Swagler, Executive vice president and director of External Affairs for Regions Financial Corporation, serves as the regional board chair and Art Faulkner, Director of Emergency Management Agency for Alabama Emergency Management Agency serves as its vice-chairman.  Swagler and Faulkner are both founding members of the Alabama Board.

The Alabama Board is focused on creating a resilient community throughout Alabama that teaches financial literacy and promotes financial and emotional well-being.  The board is aligned to better prepare Alabamians to navigate and recover from potential disasters. Its members include:

·         Dr. Regina Benjamin, MD, MBA, 18th U.S. Surgeon General, Founder and CEO, Bayou Clinic, Inc.

·         Mr. J.W. Carpenter, Executive Director, Birmingham Education Foundation

·         Mr. John Hudson, President, VP of Public Relations & Charitable Giving, Alabama Power Foundation

·         Mr. David Perry, Vice President, Protective Life Insurance Company

The Alabama Board members’ interests range from financial literacy, disaster preparedness to youth education and mental and physical health. Each has a very unique passion for promoting HOPE’s “Memo” as outlined by its Founder, John Hope Bryant to the community.

HOPE Boards help shape organizational policy and provides overall support and direction for the organization's activities. It is comprised of some of the most powerful executives, decision-makers, bankers and economists in the world. These individuals play an essential role in driving Project 5117, HOPE’s Silver Rights Movement and next phase to expand economic opportunity, and making capitalism and free enterprise accessible in underserved communities.
