UPS Comes to Aid of Oklahoma, Commits $25,000 to Operation HOPE to Provide Financial Recovery Assistance

Los Angeles – June 13, 2013 – Financial dignity leader, Operation HOPE (HOPE) announced today that it has received a $25,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE:UPS), in support of HOPE’s work to help survivors rebuild and restore damage caused by the tornado in Oklahoma through its disaster preparedness and recovery division, HOPE Coalition America (HCA).

"We are pleased to have The UPS Foundation join our efforts to continue to provide financial recovery information and guidance to individuals attempting to restructure their financial lives in storm-torn Oklahoma,” said Fred D. Smith, Operation HOPE president for HOPE Coalition America. “This funding will help us provide disaster financial recovery services, with employees in recovering communities and one-on-one guidance by trained financial recovery volunteers from the financial services industry".

Since its formation in 2001 as the result of a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, HCA has helped more than 300,000 individuals and small business recover from 34 disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Florida Hurricanes, Hurricane Sandy, as well as tornados and floods in southern and mid-western states.

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: volunteerism, diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.

The UPS Foundation was established by UPS founder Jim Casey in 1951 and leads UPS's corporate citizenship efforts. It invests nearly $100 million each year and provides more than 1.8 million hours of UPS employee’s volunteer time into communities across the globe.

Oklahomans affected by the disaster are encouraged to call the national assistance hotline immediately, at 888-388-HOPE (4673), to register as HCA clients and receive the free financial guidance to facilitate their recovery. HCA services include:

  • Assistance completing applications for grants, loans, and FEMA benefits
