The Youngs Share the Holidays with HOPE

Amb. Young Conference Room Dedicated; financial literacy TEAM program announced

Atlanta – January 2, 2013 – In December, Operation HOPE embraced the annual holiday celebration as the perfect opportunity to announce the dedication of the Ambassador J. Young Community Empowerment Conference Room at the new HOPE Financial Dignity Center, Atlanta at Ebenezer and the launch of the Carolyn Young T.E.A.M. (Teacher’s Economic Advantage Movement) Initiative. Under the backdrop of HOPE’s holiday celebration, friends, supporters, and staff gathered to share the news, join the festivities, and tour the new conference room.

Ambassador Andrew Young, who has been the organization’s global spokesman for more than seven years, expressed hopes that the room would be a place where local residents would become financially empowered and would learn how to improve their credit scores. 

“The Young’s are an inspiration to the people everywhere. Having Ambassador Young and Mrs. Carolyn Young’s presence and participation at the center will be a great inspiration to all of our clients,” James 'Jay' Bailey who serves as HOPE’s Atlanta Market CEO said. ”We look forward to the new program, T.E.A.M. , this spring, when Mrs. Young will be launching an effort to help students adapt healthy attitudes and habits towards spending, as well as assist them with setting and reaching financial goals.”

The organization’s history and story is repeated on the walls throughout the center.  In Ambassador Young’s dedicated conference room, two murals are also featured, one expressing HOPE’s mission and legacy, “Civil rights to Silver Rights” and the second is an expression HOPE’s “20 years of empowerment”.

HOPE celebrated the opening of its first full-fledged community empowerment facility, in Atlanta on November 14th, 2012.  The center is the anchor tenant of the new Martin Luther King, Sr. Resource Facility. It features two floors, a corner lounge area, a state of the art Cyber Café, a training workshop areas, three offices, and four cubicles, and now the Amb. Young Conference Room. 

The new center was brought to fruition by ground work from The Financial Services Roundtable, NestWise, State Farm, and SunTrust as Signature Founding Partners. Bolstered by support from EDA (US Economic Development Administration), Kaplan University, MasterCard, and Wells Fargo as Major Founding Partners, with additional support from The Coca-Cola Company, Equifax and the United Way as Program Sponsors, the new facility will offer an array of financial services products designed to empower the community.

“The Martin Luther King, Sr. Community Resources Complex is a one-stop-shop for comprehensive human services provided by a veritable who’s who of non-profit organizations.  None is more important to that work than the HOPE Financial Dignity Center, our anchor tenant and founding partner of the collaborative,” said Rev. Warnock. “Together we are well positioned to walk alongside struggling families and individuals as they improve their own life outcomes. Ultimately, we believe that this will positively transform this immediate community and serve as a national model for non-profit cooperation and collaboration.” 

Free services include Banking on Our Future – youth financial literacy, credit management and credit counseling, first time home buyers workshops and internet access and computer training through the Comcast Cyber Café. The center is open Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm and 10am – 2pm on Saturdays.
