Operation HOPE Welcomes Steve Gillenwater to the Southeastern Board of Directors

LOS ANGELES – January 2, 2012 – Financial dignity nonprofit Operation HOPE (HOPE) announced today that Comcast Divisional Vice President of Human Resources with the Central Division Steve Gillenwater has been appointed to the organization’s Southeastern Board of Directors.  This confirmation affirms Gillenwater’s commitment to financial literacy education and economic empowerment for youth and adults living in under-served communities.

In his role as a board member, he will provide ongoing feedback and guidance to help promote program effectiveness throughout the region.  Additionally, he will help generate and nurture support of elected officials, school administrators and community based organizations for financial literacy initiatives and programs.

“We are pleased to have such a dedicated professional as Steve Gillenwater join our Board,” said Southeastern Board Co-chairs, President of Primerica Life Insurance Company Jeff Fendler, and Corporate Executive Vice President SunTrust Bank, Inc. Ken Carrig. “His service on our board will be key in making our board more effective and dynamic.”

Steve Gillenwater has been a human resources professional for over 20 years. Prior to joining Comcast Cable in 2000, Steve was the Director of Human Resources for Wesley Industries, Inc. in Bloomfield Hills, MI a tier one automotive supplier, and Warren/Conner Development Coalition in Detroit, Michigan where he led the Human Resources and Administration functions for a large community based non-profit located in a former Enterprise Zone.

He has held several senior leadership positions in three different divisions of Comcast. In his current role as Divisional Vice President of Human Resources with the Central Division of Comcast he is responsible for the management of the human capital for the largest division of Comcast with approximately 31,000 employees. His areas of responsibility include organizational planning and development, employee relations, diversity, compensation, benefits, safety and health, employee services and partnering with the internal learning and development organization.

Steve holds a Master’s Degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix in Southfield, Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in communications from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he was a scholarship athlete. He is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
