Principles of LOVE LEADERSHIP Ignite New Entrepreneurial Program for 2011
Oakland, CA – January 18, 2011 – Financial literacy empowerment nonprofit Operation HOPE, Inc. (HOPE) kicked-off its Entrepreneurial Training Program at the Oakland HOPE Center on January 12, 2011. Thirty-two people attended the session, which featured its newly revised small business training curriculum.
The 12-week Entrepreneurial Training Program is offered three times a year and is free of charge to individuals from communities surrounding the City of Oakland. Since 2005, the program has graduated over 170 individuals in the Bay Area and continues to provide technical assistance for previous program graduates and clients in the areas of business lending, credit, marketing and planning. HOPE expects to aid in the launching of over thirty new start-up businesses in 2011.
This quarter, 32 enthusiastic individuals committed to begin the New Year by taking charge of their future by attending the program’s orientation session. Program facilitators and guest presenters included: Karen Auguste, CEO of Purple Lynx; Attorney William Taylor, Greg Cantrell, managing partner of Prospur 2000 Consulting; and Ira Williams owner of Bullet Proof Tax. The program modules consist of marketing, legal entities, business finance, strategic planning and taxes.
The orientation ended on a high-note with participant and future business owner of Nehemiah International Prison Ministries Ms. Valerie Mitchell stating, “The class was excellent! I know I really need this. I am truly grateful to Operation HOPE and everything they have to offer.”
The Oakland HOPE Center is located in Oakland’s historic Fruitvale Shopping District, and is one of the organizations ten brick-and-mortar locations. Since opening in 2005, the Oakland HOPE Center has provided services to more than 44,000 low-wealth residents in the East Bay and surrounding communities. In the last year, over 7,300 clients received services which include financial literacy education, credit counseling, business loans and mortgage fundings, Cyber Café computer services and home loan modifications combined.
