John Hope Bryant Joins Heads of State and Business Leaders at Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York

HOPE Global Initiatives Announces CGI Commitment made to Haiti

New York -- September 23, 2010 -- Operation HOPE (HOPE) Founder, Chairman and CEO, John Hope Bryant participated in the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting this week in New York. CGI gathers heads of state, business leaders and nonprofit directors intent on changing the world through action. Participants gather from September 21-23 to analyze pressing global challenges, discuss effective solutions and build partnerships with the goals of creating positive social change.

"The world is in crisis but I believe that one person can truly make a difference. Clinton Global Initiative harnesses the power of empowerment, asks us all to dream big and to follow up on our dreams with action,” said business bestselling author John Hope Bryant.

After the earthquake in Port-au-Prince in January 2010, HOPE Global Initiatives made a commitment to the Haitian people through CGI commitment to help the country rebuild. Working alongside other credible Haitian organizations, HOPE has hired and trained Haitian staff and is recruiting HOPE Corps volunteers in Port-au-Prince to provide financial literacy, economic empowerment and emergency recovery services to survivors. The goal is to create sustainable change on-the-ground and permanent presence in the Caribbean country run by Haitians themselves. All this will be done with the aim of starting a new paradigm of how international aid agencies respond to disasters and empower and utilize local communities in the future.

Services offered will include youth and adult financial literacy, providing financial life management skills, effective self-employment skills, training for identified jobs and employment referral, small business ownership, entrepreneurship and access to microfinance loans. These services will be delivered in coordination and partnership with other nonprofit organizations, governmental services providers and private sector companies in Haiti and America.

Bryant, who was branded a "whirlwind of ideas" by President Clinton, will shared his plan to support Haiti as well as furthered the  cause of advancing financial literacy worldwide and framing "silver rights" as the next civil rights issue tied to improving world economy.

Action areas covered in this year’s CGI Annual Meeting included Empowering Girls and Women, Strengthening Market-Based Solutions, Enhancing Access to Modern Technology and Harnessing Human Potential.

Joining President Clinton for this year’s CGI Annual Meeting were: American First Lady Michelle Obama; President of Barclays Robert E. Diamond; President of the Republic of Latvia Valdis Zatlers; President of the Republic of Haiti René Préval; Mayor of the City of New York Michael Bloomberg; Chairman and Founder Virgin Group Limited Richard Branson; and Secretary of State, U.S. Department of State Hillary Rodham Clinton among hundreds of notable others.
