Ready.Gov Makes the Emergency Financial First Aid Kit Available on FEMA Website

Operation HOPE’s EFFAK is first tool in economic recovery triage

— Economic empowerment organization and disaster preparedness and recovery nonprofit Operation HOPE along with FEMA through  came together to announce that the Emergency Financial First Aid Kit (EFFAK) is now available on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) website. The website, which services some millions of individuals each month, helps Americans prepare for all types of emergencies and disasters.

“EFFAK is the first free emergency individual and family financial  guide available online in English and Spanish,” said Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant. “You might not realize it now, but rebuilding your life after a catastrophe like Katrina, you'll need immediate access to information that is normally destroyed such as insurance policies, personal identification, account numbers, prescriptions and birth certificates. Making this tool available at, we wish to help millions of Americans prepare for the storm that we hope will never happen.”

In 2005, the EFFAK document became a registered federal government document and listed as FEMA publication #532. After the tragedies of September 11, Operation HOPE realized that there was a need for Financial Emergency Preparedness that reduces recovery time and created HOPE Coalition America (HCA). HCA is a national partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Citizen Corps, and the American Red Cross and is an active member of National Volunteer Agencies Active in Disasters (NVOAD). Through a collaboration of executives and professionals from the banking, financial services and insurance industries, as well as educators, government officials and community leaders, HCA provides “economic triage,” financial preparation and recovery guidance to individuals, governmental agencies and businesses before and after disasters. To date, HCA has provided preparation and recover assistance to over 350,000 individuals. is designed to help Americans stay informed, be prepared, make a plan and gain access to valuable resources. The organization strives to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies including natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the campaign is to get the public involved and ultimately to increase the level of basic preparedness across the nation.
