Wells Fargo’s continued support of Operation HOPE’s “Banking on Our Future” program assists
in making financial literacy a priority

LOS ANGELES—June 18, 2010
— To assist Operation HOPE (HOPE) in its “Silver Rights” movement to empower underserved communities and educate local youth, the Wells Fargo Foundation is providing a $100,000 donation to the financial literacy and empowerment nonprofit.  Wells Fargo also has made a pledge to provide Operation HOPE with volunteers to administer HOPE’s financial literacy program, “Banking on Our Future,” to students in the Greater Los Angeles area.

“Our partnership with Wells Fargo started in 1995 as the founding signature sponsor for Banking on Our Future, Los Angeles, with the common goal of reaching out to underserved communities with economic empowerment programs and providing financial literacy education to youth,” said Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant.  “With their consistent and ongoing support, we are able to bring our programs to students and communities in Los Angeles to those who need it most.”

Wells Fargo’s early support for Operation HOPE began with contributions to the “Banking on Our Future” program in 1995.  The program has since educated almost half-a-million students, received the prestigious Oprah’s Angel Network Award, and been recognized by the U.S. Treasury Department with the John Sherman Award for financial literacy excellence.  “Banking on Our Future” provides on-the-ground and on-line programs that offer five core modules on financial literacy education and dignity.

“Wells Fargo is proud of our long-time support of Operation HOPE,” said John Sotoodeh, Wells Fargo regional president for L.A. Metro Community Banking.  “Wells Fargo is committed to the long-term economic prosperity for our communities -- we know we are only as successful as the communities we serve.  Every day, our team members in Greater Los Angeles partner with nonprofit organizations like Operation HOPE to help address the vital needs of our communities.  Together, we know we can make a difference.”
