Emirates Foundation for Youth Development Financial Literacy Program “Esref Sah” Features Operation HOPE Founder’s “Financial Personality

The new curriculum, designed in cooperation with Operation HOPE aims to inspire youth to manage finances and debt

Los Angeles – January 11, 2013 – Operation HOPE (HOPE) Founder Chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant is featured in a new youth financial literacy curriculum, being taught to students in the United Arab Emirates, the nonprofit announced today. The course, Esref Sah, was designed in partnership with the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development to raise and strengthen awareness for better financial management among Emirati youth.

Bryant’s “Financial Personality” is being used as a tool to help students understand financial independence, goal-setting and early financial modeling, as a way to make better decisions about achieving their own financial independence. Similar to HOPE’s youth financial literacy curriculum, Banking on Our Future, “Esref Sah” (Arabic translation for "Spend Wisely”) covers the four basic modules of banking.

With the exception of Bryant, the other leaders profiled are Emirati natives. Anas Bukhash a successful businessman lends his experience to the module for Budgeting and Saving. Dr. Habib Ghuloom, a popular Emirati actor, is highlighted in the module for Burrowing. The module for Investing features Alia Al Mazrouei creator and owner of “Just Falafel” a global food chain, as the lesson centerpiece.

Esref Sah aims to build a national program that addresses challenges facing youth people in relation to managing their personal finances and most notably, debt. The project plans to expand its reach to youth across UAE each year.

HOPE has been working with the Foundation to identify opportunities to collaborate to build a long-term nation-wide financial curriculum that is sustainable and scalable.
