Midwestern Board Member Since: June 2012
Michael McCracken was appointed the Illinois Region Executive for Popular Community Bank in 2007. He is responsible for the administration, operation, sales and marketing and supervision of the 12 retail branches in the Chicago metropolitan area and management of the region’s business banking, middle market, and commercial real estate groups.
Mike’s goal is to continue to grow the region’s commercial and consumer loan and deposit portfolios, serving retail customers at the branches and small and mid-size commercial clients throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
Mike joined Popular Community Bank in April 2003 to start the Middle Market initiative, with the goal of targeting a larger commercial and industrial client base in Illinois. He grew the business from $20 million in loans and $20 million in deposits, to $200 million in loans, and $100 million in deposits. Based on his success in Illinois, Mike was tapped to head the Middle Market nationally before transitioning to Illinois Region Executive.
Mike has been in financial services his entire career. He joined the Bank One (previously NBD Bank and First Chicago NBD) commercial banking training program straight out of college. After graduating the program, Mike was a commercial real estate banker for two years and then a middle market banker for seven years. Before joining Popular Community Bank he managed a $700 million lending group specializing in nursing homes and hedge funds.
Mike is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. in Finance. While at Bank One, he attended night school at DePaul University and earned a M.S. in Accountancy. Mike is actively involved in Junior Achievement and is on the Boards of Youth About Business, Accion, and the Northwest Suburban Council Boy Scouts of America.
