Mr. Mitchell joined the California National Bank team in June of 2001 and departed in late 2009 following the transfer of Cal National’s assets and liabilities to U.S. Bank.  During his tenure at Cal National, Mr. Mitchell led the transformation of Cal National from a $600 million total asset “wholesale bank” operating through five offices, into a $7.5 billion community bank serving clients through 68 retail offices throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura and San Bernardino counties.  Mr. Mitchell also served as Chairman of the Board of Pacific National Bank, San Francisco, California. Mr. Mitchell is currently providing advisory services to a number of financial institutions and equity funds.

Prior to joining California National Bank, Mr. Mitchell was a Partner with Hovde Financial where he was responsible for the formation and management of its West Coast investment banking, financial advisory, merchant banking and funds management practice. Mr. Mitchell also served 10 years with the Office of Thrift Supervision. During that period, Mr. Mitchell served as a lead manager in the Management Consignment Program where he acted as receiver or conservator for failed thrifts. He then developed a nationally recognized program aimed at recapitalizing and restructuring troubled thrift institutions without federal assistance.


Mr. Mitchell is a retired commissioned officer with the United States Coast Guard Reserves where he served as a Search and Rescue Coordinator. Mr. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of the Pacific, a master’s degree in Public Administration from George Washington University,and a post-graduate certificate in commercial banking from Pacific Coast Banking School, University of Washington.

Mr. Mitchell is actively involved in community activities and currently serves as Chairman of the Investment Committee and a member of the Executive Board of the Los Angeles Council, Boy Scouts of America. He also serve as an Executive Board Member of the Central City Association and Stone Soup Child Care. Mr. Mitchell also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Everychild Foundation and St.Vincent’s Meals on Wheels.  He has previously served as Vice Chairman of the March of Dimes, a director of the Children’s Hunger Fund and a member of the National Board and Executive Committee of Operation HOPE.
