Woodlawn Foundation Welcomes Operation HOPE Founder John Hope Bryant to Kickoff Youth Business Program

Operation HOPE Founder and best-selling author John Hope Bryant will bring his economic justice message to Birmingham, AL. Bryant, whose global financial dignity nonprofit produces financial empowerment programs for youth and adults, will launch a program for youth entrepreneurship in schools in Woodlawn this fall, HOPE Business in a Box. Joined by Regions Bank, Protective Life and Synovus, Bryant will also help kickoff Woodlawn Foundation’s upcoming capital campaign to raise $7.1 million. The funds will support the Woodlawn Innovation Network (WIN) in five schools, build an early learning center for 0-3 year olds and their families and support the housing and community wellness efforts of the Foundation.  Its mission is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in the Woodlawn community in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Woodlawn Foundation is the lead organization for the Woodlawn United comprehensive community change effort. Having a lead organization is one of the unique features of the Purpose Built Communities holistic revitalization model. Woodlawn United effort follows the Purpose Built Communities three point model of High Quality Mixed Income Housing, Cradle to College and Career Education and Community Wellness.

John Hope Bryant is the founder, chairman and CEO of Operation HOPE and Bryant Group Companies, Inc. He is a Member of the U.S. President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability for Youth for President Barack Obama and the only African-American bestselling author on economics in the world today.
