Operation HOPE has invested $1 million into bringing Banking on Our Future to over 50,000 South African women and youth through partnerships with Citi, International Finance Corporation, and the Nelson Mandela Children’s fund.
Through this effort, we have mobilized over 1,100 local volunteers and implemented Banking on Our Future in 33 schools throughout the country. We’ve reached 30,000 students and adults nationwide with a message of entrepreneurship, dignity, and financial literacy—and we’re expanding every day.
Banking on Our Future is our core financial literacy program, working to eradicate poverty by bringing financial education to children in low-income communities across the world. Our educators are volunteers trained to break down financial topics into concepts that are easy for children to understand and engage in.
Our Banking on Our Future initiative has been customized to apply specifically to conditions, culture, and language relevant to local South African communities—with a special focus on entrepreneurship. The program has been approved by the national and provincial Departments of Education.
We’ve partnered with community-based organizations, churches, schools, and civil-society organizations to empower South African youth and families in making positive, informed financial choices throughout their lives.
