Operation HOPE Lends Muscle to the 2013 Moneywise Empowerment Tour
Successful traveling money management seminar visits East Bay Church of Religious Science on September 7, in Oakland, CA
Oakland, CA -- September 5, 2013 – Operation HOPE Oakland Market President Tyrone Cosey will join Kelvin Boston, best-selling author and host of Moneywise PBS TV series for the Moneywise Empowerment Tour on Saturday, September 7 at the East Bay Church of Religious Science, 4130 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA.
“I am glad that the Moneywise Empowerment Tour was able to partner with the East Bay Church to bring the tour to Oakland”, said Kelvin Boston. “Faith based organizations will play an important role in securing Black America's economic future.” In spite of the recession, we still have financial and human capital to protect, save and invest”, he continued.
HOPE staff members who will also contribute to the program include: Renee Tucker, program coordinator of SparkPoint Oakland Center, Aaron Baluyot community lending officer, Yolanda Butler small business program coordinator, Gregory Collins program manager and Emelina Martinez customer service administrator.
This is a great way for our staff to connect with Oakland residents and encourage them to start building their credit scores,” said Cosey. “Since 2004, the Oakland HOPE Financial Dignity Center has provided on-the-ground, in-person support to people looking to take back their lives by getting their financial house in order.”
In addition, the seminar will feature national speakers Dennis Kimbro, PhD author of “Think and Grow Rich A Black Choice”; Valerie Morris Coleman, former CNN Business Anchor and author of It Your Money So Take It Personally; Emerick Peace, Regional Vice President of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Brent Neiser, Senior Director Strategic Programs for the National Endowment For Financial Education and Doreen Vail, national award-nominated recording artist.
The Moneywise Empowerment Tour is the official outreach program of the Moneywise with Kelvin Boston PBS series. This grassroots traveling money management seminar has become one of the leading African American financial information tours in the country, serving more than 40,000 minority consumers and military members in the United States.
HOPE sponsors the Moneywise Empowerment Tour along with Bank of the West, NestWise, The National Endowment for Financial Education, FDIC, National Association of Real Estate Brokers and the Moneywise Foundation.
This year, the Moneywise Empowerment Tour will visit ten cities, including Los Angeles, CA, Baltimore, MD, Newark, NJ, Kansas City, MO, Denver, CO, Philadelphia, PA, Atlanta, GA, Oakland, CA, Dallas, TX and Washington, DC.
Participants will also learn success steps from a panel of accomplished women of color. The daylong (8AM to 4:30 PM) seminar will also feature results-oriented panel discussions on: increasing your savings and investments, understanding new housing programs, protecting your retirement and estate, and the steps to starting a business.
This wealth-building seminar will provide attendees the opportunity to engage representatives from Bank of the West, NestWise, National Association of Real Estate Brokers, National Endowment For Financial Education, Operation HOPE, East Bay Housing Service and other community based non-profits, governmental agencies and financial service companies. There is a $10 registration fee to attend the Moneywise seminar, which includes refreshments and live musical entertainment.
