Operation HOPE Welcomes State Farm Vice President, Operations Tyrone Smith to the Southeastern Board
Los Angeles – August 15, 2013 – Operation HOPE (HOPE) announced today that Tyrone Smith, CPCU, CLU, ChFC and a Southern Zone Vice President, Operations for State Farm®, has been appointed to its Southeastern Board of Directors. Mr. Smith will help advance financial literacy empowerment as part of the nonprofit’s “silver rights” mission to provide access to resources and free enterprise to underserved communities.
During his two-year service to the board, Mr. Smith will help grow the volunteer base and promote economic empowerment and financial preparedness throughout the southern region. His efforts to promote financial preparedness make him an important addition to the board.
Mr. Smith joined State Farm® in 1984 as a claim representative in Wilmington, DE. He became a claim analyst in service and systems at the company's corporate headquarters in Bloomington, IL in 1988 and claim superintendent in Biloxi, MS in 1990. In 1993, Tyrone was named divisional claim superintendent in Murfreesboro, TN., catastrophe consultant in general claims back at corporate headquarters in 1996 and division manager in DuPont, WA in 2001.
Mr. Smith was named Executive Assistant to the Chairman’s Council in 2002 and became a Southern Zone Vice President, Operations (Auto/Fire Operations, Strategic Resources, Public Affairs and Finance) in February 2004. In January 2013, Tyrone assumed responsibility for Fire Claims in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., Mr. Smith earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1991, the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1999, and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation in 2002. Tyrone has been a board member for Atlanta Urban League, The Baby Fold, the Alaska Guaranty Association, and the Hawaii Guaranty Association. Tyrone is also a member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta.
