Operation HOPE to Host U.S. Surgeon General
Top Medical Leaders Join to Discuss Healthcare During National Women’s Health Week at HOPE Forum
ATLANTA- May 16, 2013- Recognizing National Women’s Health Week, financial dignity nonprofit Operation HOPE (HOPE) will host U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin, MD, MBA for a discussion on the relationship between physical and fiscal health in America. Joining the discussion will be Chief Medical Officer of Centene Corporation Dr. Mary Mason and Chief Medical Officer of Peach State Health Care Dr. Dean Greeson. Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, dean and executive vice president of the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) will moderate the event at the Operation HOPE Financial Dignity Center at Ebenezer in Atlanta.
This event will be the fourth installment in the HOPE Forum series. The topic “Investing in Your Health” will explore the impact of healthcare on the economy and how to invest wisely in personal health to improve the nation’s overall well-being.
Dr. Benjamin has served as the U.S. Surgeon General since 2009. Prior to this appointment, she served as associate dean for rural health at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile and as past chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States. Dr. Rice has served in her leadership position at MSM since June 2011. In this role, she guides MSM’s academic, training, research and community health programs. Prior to joining MSM, she founded the Center for Women’s Health Research at Meharry Medical College, dedicated to studying how women’s health is affected by the relationship of biology and economics.
Dr. Mason has created a number of medical management programs for Centene, including the international award winning program Start Smart for Your Baby, a multi-faceted pregnancy and newborn program that focus on early risk screening case management and member empowerment in order to have a positive impact on pregnancy outcomes and neonatal-intensive care unit rates.
Dr. Greeson is a seasoned Board Certified Physician Executive with more than twenty-years of expertise in the group health and Medicaid managed care and consulting arenas, Greeson has demonstrated strengths including managed care contracting, HMO re-engineering and start-up, healthcare marketing, utilization review, disease and demand management, clinical guideline development, physician profiling and integration.
Hosted by Operation HOPE, these forums are a series of regional and national events to discuss financial literacy empowerment themes. These conversations are designed to frame the issue of financial dignity as an essential economic tool. HOPE Forums explore solutions to America’s economic recovery and sustainability from top to bottom, bringing the conversation into the community.
