The Make Smart Cool Tour is an extension of the FIVE MILLION KIDS Initiative (5MK), HOPE’s national movement to restore the relevance between education and success, by teaching and showing youth the real importance of an education.
On September 29, 2009, 5MK National Co-Chairs Quincy Jones and Ambassador Andrew Young along with 5MK Celebrity Ambassador Tyrese Gibson, Operation HOPE Founder and CEO John Hope Bryant, and the Operation HOPE team joined 1,600 students in Los Angeles to launch the 5MK Movement. After the successful 5MK launch in Los Angeles in September 2009 and a nationwide expansion of programming, educating more than 145,000 youth, HOPE is now kicking off the national Make Smart Cool Tour (MSC) in New York City.
By bringing high-profile celebrities to school auditoriums across the country, The Make Smart Cool Tour hopes to stem the dropout epidemic by appealing to students on an emotional level. Celebrities that are on board to support the effort include:
