OneWest Bank Announces Pledge to Secure 100 HOPE Inside Locations in Los Angeles by December, 2016

Largest Commitment Towards Fulfilling Operation HOPE’s Goal of 1,000 Locations by 2020

“HOPE Inside is the first ever, nationwide nonprofit banker for the working poor and struggling middle class”

LOS ANGELES – March 3, 2015 – OneWest Bank President Joseph P. Otting announced a pledge to assist Operation HOPE in securing 100 HOPE Inside locations in the Los Angeles market. Of those, OneWest is committed to opening 10 locations themselves, and serve as Market Leader in obtaining commitments to reach the 100 location target by December, 2016.

“We are honored to receive this major commitment to our work by One West Bank”, stated Operation HOPE Founder, Chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant. “This first ever national network of 1,000 HOPE Inside locations will become the ‘Starbucks of financial inclusion’ – the private banker to the working poor and struggling middle class.”

HOPE Inside locations offer a full-range of free-of charge financial services including credit counseling, Earned Income Tax Credit assistance, homeownership and small business counseling. HOPE Inside locations will be housed “inside” bank branches, credit unions, grocery stores, big box retailers, payment locations, government offices and houses of faith in underserved communities. The flagship office now sits on the hallowed ground of the King Center campus in Atlanta, home to the HOPE Inside@Ebenezer, in honor of Dr. King’s father, Martin Luther King, Sr. - who was both a pastor and served on the board of a bank for 40 years.

The announcement was made in conjunction with Operation HOPE’s Commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Freedman’s Bank at the National Archives in Washington D.C.  Established by President Abraham Lincoln, the Bank was a landmark institution designed to teach former slaves about money. This commemoration also launched the beginning of a year-long, nationwide tour driven by Operation HOPE to complete the Bank’s unfinished mission of delivering economic empowerment by teaching individuals and families how to use their money.
