Making a Difference in Atlanta, Operation HOPE Announces Results
Atlanta, GA - April 25, 2011 - On the site of the future home of the HOPE Financial Literacy Empowerment Center, Ebenezer, Operation HOPE (HOPE) Founder, Chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant announced phase one accomplishments at a press conference on April 25, 2011.
"Atlanta is the spiritual home of the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King, Sr. or ‘Daddy King' knew that there was a relationship between civil rights and what I call ‘silver rights' as was evidenced by his involvement on a bank board for more than 40 years," said Bryant, who also serves as a member of the U.S. President's Advisory Council on Financial Capability. "Simply put, providing members of our community with the economic empowerment tools to build a better life for themselves is the next step in the civil rights process."
Since breaking ground on the new flagship HOPE Center in April 2010, with the support of Ebenezer Baptist Church and The Financial Services Roundtable, along with founding partners SunTrust Bank, LPL Financial, State Farm Insurance, Wells Fargo, MasterCard, Coca Cola, the U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) and honorary partners Atlanta-based Capitol City Bank and Citizens Trust Bank, HOPE has made a concentrated effort to serve the Atlanta community and the Southeastern region. The announcement of the Atlanta results came as HOPE announced the opening of a HOPE Express Office on the grounds at Ebenezer.
