Rick Swagler, 52, leads the External Affairs Department for Regions Financial Corporation. His responsibilities include corporate communications, government relations, economic development, corporate social responsibility and diversity. He is a 14-year veteran with Regions, a top U.S. bank-holding company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, with $118 billion in assets, operating approximately 1,700 branches in 16 states.
Prior to joining AmSouth Bancorporation in 2000, Swagler served in senior editorial roles at The Tampa Tribune, The Birmingham News, and The Alabama Journal in Montgomery. He has also served as a staff attorney and director of publications for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in Washington, D.C.
Swagler earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and a juris doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Swagler serves on the board of directors of the Alabama Bankers Association. He serves on the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Comprehensive Cancer Center Advisory Board, the Financial Services Roundtable’s Public Affairs Council, and the Advisory Council of the College of Charleston’s Communications Department. He is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society. He is a former board member of the Alabama Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, the Alabama Region of the National Conference for Community and Justice, and the Literacy Council of Central Alabama. Swagler is a member of the Alabama State Bar.
