Our Vision: South Africa Uplift 2020

HOPE South Africa has developed an initiative titled South Africa Uplift 2020. This initiative provides South African orphans, vulnerable children, and youth in general a rich and vibrant opportunity to practice the financial, entrepreneurial, and leadership theories learned in real-time with hands-on learning and practice with mentors and role models.  Parts of our curriculum is available in isiXhosa, isiZulu seTswana and English to fit the language preferences of all in the six urban communities identified.

South Africa Uplift 2020 is a four-year initiative focused on entrepreneurship and leadership skills development for youth throughout South Africa, and provides opportunities for adults and families to take control of their financial and economic lives. The program’s objective is to have:

  1. 100,000 youth empowered with a new level of financial literacy through our unique financial dignity education program, Banking On Our Future. The program elevates the dignity, hope, and economic self-sufficiency of people in low-wealth and underserved communities through financial literacy.

  1. 20,000 youth empowered youth will have an opportunity to become future entrepreneurs, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and local job creators through the HOPE Business In A Box Academies. Youth will also have opportunities to work-readiness and internship opportunities through HOPE Internships.

  1. 100 HOPE Inside locations where families and adults will have access to credit counseling and education on credit, money and debt management, offered in individual and group settings. Our locations will offer a full-range of free-of charge financial services including credit counseling, homeownership, small business and enterprise development training conducted by HOPE certified Financial Coaches. HOPE Inside locations will be housed “inside” bank branches, retail stores, government offices, community based organizations and houses of faith in underserved communities.

  1. 6 Credit Conscious Communities will be attained through building a network of HOPE Inside locations and HOPE Signature Schools in the most underserved communities in South Africa. HOPE believes that a community of youth and adults empowered with their own sense of financial dignity asks good questions, demands better products and services, is more aspirational, and positions themselves as an upwardly mobile emerging market for the future.  An empowered community is a community filled with economic opportunity.
