South Gate/ HOPE Financial Dignity Centers

HOPE Financial Dignity Centers are a network of community-based locations providing financial literacy, resources, and counseling to people in underserved neighborhoods.

Since the launch of the first HOPE Center in 1994, our goal has been to open locations in neighborhoods with no banking presence. In this way, we’ve made banking accessible to those in underserved communities who might ordinarily have access only to check-cashing centers and payday loans.

At HOPE Centers, trained finance professionals provide financial literacy classes and one-on-one counseling on homeownership, mortgages and foreclosures, credit, small business, and more. We help clients secure loans from local banks and create incentives for banks to become stakeholders in low-wealth communities.

From our inception in 1992 through 2010, we’ve educated 55,000 adults, counseled 22,000 clients one-on-one, and helped individuals secure over $300 million in loans. Through our HOPE Centers, we’ve empowered our clients to become homeowners, business owners, and banking customers. We’ve helped individuals increase their net worth and provided assistance to those facing foreclosure.

Our HOPE Centers have over 250 partners in public, private and community sectors. Our partnerships include banks, credit unions, and community- and faith-based organizations.  We also have the support of government agencies including the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Small Business Administration (SBA) and Economic Development Administration (EDA). We are recognized by HUD as an approved housing and foreclosure prevention counseling agency.
