The HOPE Bracelet Business In-A-Box
Operation HOPE (HOPE) and the United Against Malaria (UAM) campaign, have partnered together to make available the UAM bracelet in the United States. The UAM bracelet is handmade, through the Relate Trust, as part of an economic development project to give dignity and hope to unemployed and unskilled people in the townships of South Africa. The bracelet will be packaged and sold by urban and rural youth entrepreneurs in the United States.
Proceeds of the bracelet, which will retail for $5, will benefit the local U.S. based youth business that packaged, marketed and sold them, the workers in South Africa that manufactured them (many of whom have been impacted by HIV/AIDS), and $1 from each bracelet will be used to purchase malaria bed nets in Africa for families through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This is “doing well by doing good” at its best.
HOPE and UAM have agreed to launch the pilot HOPE-UAM Bracelet Business In-A-Box in the first quarter of 2012, managed by the HOPE Office of Small Business & Entrepreneurship.
United Against Malaria, based in New York and South Africa, will coordinate all manufacturing of the core product.
HOPE and UAM will jointly design product packaging.
The HOPE Office of Small Business & Entrepreneurship (HOSBE) are providing Business In-A-Box start-up kits at the following levels:
Each HOPE Business In-A-Box (HBIAB) will include a detailed, step-by-step product assembly process,* along with all packaging materials required. Also included will be simple and straight-forward marketing examples and sales tips for youth.
