The Mission:  5-20%, in every city across America NO MATTER WHAT!

In order for America to win the future, we need to continue to be the economic leader of the world. That will not happen without start-up business creation, which is where most jobs come from.  99% of all jobs come from small businesses within 500 employees or less, and half of all jobs come from businesses with 100 employees or less. Gallup and Operation HOPE believe that the 30M youth between 4th grade and 12th grade, represent the bench strength of the playoff game for the rest of our lives.  

There are 50 million kids in K-12. Twenty million in K-4, fifteen million in middle school and another 15 million in high school. When Gallup/Hope researchers asked the 30 million kids in middle and high school if they wanted to start their own businesses a whopping 44% said “yes.” When Gallup/Hope researchers asked the same group if they believed they would “invent something that changed the world,” an astounding 47% said, “yes.”

The big discovery is that we found huge amounts of economic start-up energy in our kids—enough for America’s Companies to rewin the world’s markets and generate tons of new great jobs—but we are blowing it. Because when Gallup/Hope asked these kids if they were in any local internships or were being mentored—only 5% said “yes.”  So there are about 15 million kids in a state of mind of “dream it  build it” but 95% not getting the attention they need to shoot-up and save the country’s economy and growing  joblessness problems. Imagine if all 15 million were in internships and mentoring programs. These kids can save their country and the world because there is nothing more needed than new jobs created through start-ups.

Our big finding is that when mentoring and internships of youth wanting to start businesses or invent something that changes the world jumps from 5% to 20%--it literally saves America….and the world.

The Business Case with Global Implications

In an environment where $140 trillion in untapped global GDP will be up for grabs in the next 28 years (by 2040), these kids – 30 million youth 8-18 years old – represent the single best chance America has to come out on top. 

In 2040, who leads the free world?  Who has the biggest military budget to secure both protection and global democratic stability?   Who can afford international aid or charitable efforts to other nations and people in need?  Which nation gets to determine global priorities?  

If we don’t bridge the gap between the 77% of all kids who want to be their own boss with the 5% of all kids who have a business internship or business role model, it is doubtful that it will be the United States of America. 

Where America lands at the end of this all-out fight rests with this group of kids.  They are the “farm club and bench strength for the playoff game of the rest of our lives;” and according to this recent Gallup-HOPE Index poll, they are up for the challenge.
